Oregon ACHE Chapter Update:
A Message from the President March 2025

Greetings, Oregon ACHE members!

I am thrilled to share my first message as President of the Oregon Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). My name is Wing Chan, and I currently serve as the Associate Vice President of Professional Services for Samaritan Medical Group, where we serve the Willamette Valley from the coast to the Cascades. With nearly two decades in healthcare leadership—spanning integrated delivery and academic health systems in the Midwest before settling in Oregon six years ago—I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the dedication and innovation that define our profession.

It is an incredible honor to step into this role, following in the footsteps of inspiring leaders who have built a strong foundation for our chapter. I’m excited to work alongside our dedicated board members and all of you to build on our momentum and drive continued growth and impact.

Our chapter has seen tremendous growth and impact thanks to the dedication of our leaders and members. This year, we are fortunate to welcome several new board members who bring fresh perspectives and a shared commitment to advancing healthcare leadership in Oregon.

Celebrating Accomplishments

Before we look ahead, I want to take a moment to celebrate some of the progress we’ve made as a chapter over the past year:

  • Launched a new website in Spring 2024 to improve communication and engagement.
  • Expanded our Education & Planning Committee and Communications Committee, along with the creation of an annual programs calendar.
  • Established a new Membership Committee to enhance engagement and outreach.
  • Grew our chapter membership by 5%, reaching a total of 422 members by the end of 2024.
  • Increased member satisfaction, with a mean score rising to 3.8 in 2024.
  • Expanded chapter events, programming hours, and attendee engagement compared to 2023.

Looking Ahead: Our Strategic Focus Areas

As a board, we recently completed a strategic prioritization exercise to focus our efforts over the next two years. I am pleased to share the top five priorities that will guide our work:

Priority

Objective

Education

Enhance the value of educational events to support members in achieving Fellow status and retaining their FACHE credential.

Advancement

Create pathways for members to advance from general membership to Fellow, including support for maintaining the FACHE credential.

Membership

Strengthen recruitment and retention efforts while enhancing the overall value proposition of ACHE membership.

Networking & Engagement

Expand in-person and virtual opportunities for members to connect and grow professionally.

Sponsorships

Build stronger partnerships with sponsors to sustain and expand chapter programming.

Each committee and the board will develop action plans to support these goals, ensuring we continue to provide meaningful value to our members.

Exciting Changes: New Committees & Leadership

In support of our strategic priorities, we are launching two key committees:

  • Advancement Committee: This new initiative aims to support members on their journey to Fellow status (FACHE). We want to hear from new Fellows and those in the process of obtaining their credential to tailor resources effectively. A huge thank you to Amy Watson for stepping up as chair of this important committee.
  • Sponsorship Committee: To strengthen partnerships and funding for our chapter, we are launching a Sponsorship Committee, led by Aimee Samuels, our former Education & Planning Chair.

Additionally, we are thrilled to have Shelli Alinari-Beebe taking on the role of Membership Committee Chair, leading efforts to enhance member engagement, including networking opportunities throughout the state. Denise Hoover (former Membership committee chair) has transitioned into the role of Board Secretary, bringing continuity and leadership to our governance.

Recognizing Our New Fellows

I want to extend heartfelt congratulations to the following colleagues who were recognized at the 91st convocation at ACHE Congress in Houston for earning their FACHE credential!

  • Amanda Kopra, FACHE
  • Heidi May-Stoulil, FACHE
  • Jessica Petkovic, FACHE
  • Aimee Samuels, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE
  • Camellia K. Walker, FACHE
  • Scott A. Nicol, FACHE

These colleagues are among the 635 who were recognized at Convocation this year. Earning this distinction is a testament to their commitment to healthcare leadership excellence.

Stay Engaged: Education, Events & Networking

Our chapter is committed to providing valuable learning and networking opportunities. This year, we’re introducing after-hours networking socials across the state to foster connections. Be sure to check our website and LinkedIn page for event updates.  If you are interested in organizing one, please reach out to Shelli Alinari-Beebe!

Connect and Get Involved!

We are always looking for members who want to get involved and help shape the future of our chapter. Whether through committee work, event planning, or mentorship, there are many ways to contribute. If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about available opportunities, please reach out!

I also welcome the opportunity to connect with you, learn about your goals and engage in dialogue on how the chapter can support you professionally.

We want to hear from you!  Your feedback is essential in shaping the future of our chapter. Looking ahead, please watch for our annual membership survey in May, where you’ll have the opportunity to share insights on what’s working well and where we can improve.

Thank you for being part of the Oregon ACHE community. I look forward to engaging with you all and making 2025 a year of elevated growth and impact for our chapter!

Best regards,
Wing K. Chan, MHA, FACHE
