January 2025: Past-President's Farewell Message
President's Report

Hello Oregon ACHE!
It is with great pride that I write this farewell message to you all as we now usher in 2025 and the Presidency of your new Oregon ACHE President, Wing K. Chan, FACHE!
Wing’s presidency started on the first and you will be hearing more from Wing - and our Regent, Dr. Jane Russell, FACHE - in the near future, to kick start the year. You will be apprised of upcoming events and activities already planned for this “academic” year! Thank you to the Planning & Education Committee for their work to secure dates so we can all hold time on our busy calendars for professional development and networking. This is so important as you all know!
Reflecting on my past two years as President, I am so thankful for all that we have accomplished together. And I am extremely proud of the progress that the Oregon Chapter of ACHE made in 2024.
This was my second and final year as President of Oregon ACHE.
I am excited to share that Wing and our Regent, Dr. Russell, FACHE, were able to attend the Chapter Leaders Conference in Chicago (September 2024). This opportunity served as both a foundation for their leadership terms as well as an opportunity to network with others in the ACHE community nationwide.
As president of Oregon ACHE, Wing is inheriting the multi-year 10-point strategic plan that the Board adopted in 2023. This multi-year plan will continue to guide the Oregon Chapter through the next few years. The 10 points of the M.E.M.B.E.R.S.H.I.P. plan are:
- Members
- Education
- Mentorship
- Board
- Early Careerists
- Relational (Networking)
- Sponsorships
- Help Fellows Advance
- Inspired Communication
- Promote DEI
This 10-point strategic plan is conveyed in the scorecard with metrics which accompanies this report. I am proud of the 8.8% increase in membership that we achieved during my tenure!
I am also thrilled to report that Oregon ACHE was able to host learning events that provided 12 continuing education units of learning to our members right here in Oregon, consisting of both a spring and fall conference along with multiple webinars. These webinars were attended by local Oregon ACHE members and by members around the nation - and world - as far away as Pakistan.
In addition to the election of a President-Elect, Wing Chan, we also elected a number of new Board members, to include two new officers, as we split out the duties of Secretary/Treasurer to a Secretary AND a Treasurer. As our Chapter continues to grow, we felt this was needed.
We also launched our StarChapter website in March-May of 2024 which has yielded a modern new look to our website; created efficiencies in how we build, market, and track attendance at our learning events; and which will provide a forum for future offline interactions in our community.
The Chapter continued the strong work of the Education & Planning Committee and Communications Committee. We also achieved the 2024 goal of launching a new Membership Committee. All three committees have assigned responsibilities in the aforementioned multi-point, multi-year strategic plan that will guide us through 2027. Wing plans to hold a strategic planning retreat to revisit and prioritize the goals, and this already started with a thorough review of our current state metrics at our November Fall Conference, featuring an in-person meeting of the Board and those coming onto the Board, whose Board service starts on January 1st, 2025.
The physical size and disparate population of Oregon makes programming and location selection difficult. Our hope is the national ACHE leaders will understand the new engagement dynamics and allow us to continue offering face-to-face credit virtually.
All in all, it was a huge growth year for the Oregon Chapter of ACHE as we have risen from our traditional baseline of ~370 members to approximately 415 as of this writing. We are so looking forward to building the roles and duties of the Membership Committee in 2024; adding Sponsors to the Chapter; and reinvigorating our website/online platform to be an engaging space for members to come together, network, learn, register for events, and which will help take our chapter to all new heights!
Thank you again for the pleasure of being of service to ACHE and Oregon in this unique way, and I look forward to continuing to remain involved with Oregon ACHE as both a member - and as Immediate Past President! I will continue to be a resource and advocate for the chapter and its leaders - and in doing so - for all of you!
Best wishes and here’s to 2025!
